Recommended Chelated Micronutrient Mixtures (EDDHA / EDTA) for High pH Calcareous Soils (pH 8.2)?

๐ŸŒพ Farmer Posted by: Sardar_Cotton_Grower ๐Ÿ“… Oct 24, 2026

Our soil in Saurashtra, Gujarat, has a pH of 8.2 to 8.4 with high free calcium carbonate. We are observing severe interveinal chlorosis (Iron and Zinc deficiency) on cotton and groundnut crops.
Standard Ferrous Sulfate (FeSO4) soil applications have failed due to rapid precipitation. Which specific chelated forms (Fe-EDDHA vs Fe-EDTA) and Zinc formulations work best in high-pH alkaline soils, and what are the best commercial products available in India?

In soils with pH above 7.5, Fe-EDTA becomes chemically unstable; the iron ion dissociates and precipitates as insoluble iron hydroxide (

), rendering it unavailable to plant roots.
Iron: You must apply Fe-EDDHA (ortho-ortho isomer content minimum 4.8%). EDDHA chelates remain 100% stable in alkaline substrates up to pH 10.0.
Zinc: Use Zn-EDTA (12%), which remains stable in alkaline soils up to pH 8.5, or perform foliar applications of liquid chelated zinc during active flush stages.
Standard brands supplying genuine Fe-EDDHA 6% in India include Aries Ferroche, Valagro Ferrilene, and BASF Librel.
